Out of the Box Volunteering

Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something. At ISCC volunteers are the heart of our organization. You can start volunteering at any age to make a difference.

As Mahatma Gandhi said, “I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.” This is certainly true in case of our eleven year old volunteer who herself is suffering from cancer, Partou.

During this past Holiday season volunteers distributed over 800 Piggy Banks (Ghollaks) at local supermarkets in Orange County and Los Angeles counties. At one of these locations Partou, an angel of ISCC helped with the distribution.

Negeen and Naseem, two young ladies who live in San Diego, approached ISCC after a gathering held at a supporter’s house and indicated their interest in helping out.

The two sisters started by creating awareness for underprivileged children with cancer among their school friends by distributing ISCC’s piggy banks at their schools. They have been very successful in this effort and have enlisted the help of many students far. Included in their many projects, last Christmas Naseem and her friends at Bishop School made 40 beautiful personalized holiday greeting cards for children with cancer, which were distributed among the patients at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles by ISCC. ISCC is proud of these young ladies. Their creativity, compassion and generosity are a great foundation for their future.

Shayan, became familiar with ISCC through his mom who is a 3rd grade school teacher and wanted to make a difference. He decided to distribute piggy banks to his friends and family and ask them in lieu of presents for his 16th birthday instead of buying him a present to touch a child’s life by donating to ISCC in lieu of presents for his 16th birthday. To his surprise he was able to collect $1,165. He is an active volunteer with ISCC. Congratulations to Shayan for this selfless act on his birthday, for getting involved, and for making a difference in a child’s life.
