Did you Know?

All types of childhood cancer combined receive less than 4% of the United States federal funding for cancer research.
In the last 20 years, the FDA has approved only two pediatric cancer drugs that were initially studied in children. Clolar and Erwinaze.
The causes of most pediatric cancers remain a mystery and cannot be prevented.
One out of every 300 males and one out of every 333 females in America will develop cancer before their 20th birthday.
Childhood cancer survivors are at significant risk for secondary cancers later in life.
More than 40,000 children undergo treatment for cancer each year.
When a child is diagnosed with cancer- so is their family and everyone that loves them.
The 10 Most Common Types of Childhood Cancers
1-Leukemia (acute lymphoblastic & acute myeloid)
2-CNS, brain and spinal cord tumors
3-Lymphomas (including Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin)
4-Skin cancer and melanomas
5-Soft tissue tumors (including rhabdomyosarcoma)
6-Germ cell tumors
7-Neuroblastoma
8-Bone cancers (including osteosarcoma & Ewing sarcoma)
9-Renal cancer (including Wilms tumor)
10-Retinoblastoma
In the United States, among children, from birth to age 19, more than 18,000 cases of cancer are diagnosed each year.
Many parents have to travel hours to hospitals to get treatment for their children. They often times have to stay there for more than a month. This leaves one parent at the hospital and one parent at home to take care of siblings. It’s very hard on the entire family.

A Letter from Far Far Away
In the beautiful innocent world of children which is full of colors and dreams it doesn't matter where their friends live and which place they come from. They behave and act based on innate humane instincts and playing and drawing are two of the most important means by which they communicate. MAHAK children have friends all over the world whose messages indicate their unconditional and unlimited love and support.
One of our children's friends is Arman who has written a letter to send his pure wishes
and prayers to his buddies at MAHAK.

Arman has written:
Hi my friends.
I heard you are sick. I pray for you to get better soon.
I can't wait to play with you.

There is no border to love in MAHAK and we are waiting to receive your letters from everywhere in the world.

Eyes of the heart; A better way to see: “The story began the day we were told that Reza cannot see anymore. He just turned seven. It was the early days of school. I assumed that the flame in him for learning, playing and observing suddenly streaked off.
One of these days when he was so tired and nervous due to chemotherapy, I went to the playroom to find something for him to play. The psychologist in the room gave me Legos. I had doubt to take it or not. anyway, Reza started to play. Meanwhile, looking at him playing with the Legos I thought about the days after his diagnosis that I was full of stress and completely desperate to get along with him. With all these thoughts with such fear of tomorrow I slept.
The day after, with children’s sounds coming from the corridor laughing and playing, I woke up and believe me, what I saw was honestly fantastic. Reza made a house with every facility you can imagine. The rooms were separated, the stairs, windows, doors, everything. You cannot believe, even the kitchen had oven and fridge.
Since then I knew very well what makes Reza entertained and reduces his tension and stress. He spent hours and hours in his room to make new things. Once the doctor came to his room for a normal check-up, he saw a fun city at Reza’s room and said: ”Good for you, your mom is very talented.” We both laughed and I told the doctor that Reza himself had made it. The wonder in his eyes was the same as mine when I saw his first Lego construction.
Now a days, Reza is going to the school for the children visually impaired. What made me worry about my son few years ago makes me proud of him now. Reza can make different shapes with Legos only by touching them. He had never seen a sewing machine before but after touching it, he made a running one. It is four years that Reza is #cancer free and nothing could have stopped him from learning new things. I believe in him and I know that with skills he has and the journey he has passed; he will be one of the most successful people in the society. I hope that all the children with cancer will be remitted soon and there will be no children in pain anymore.” Reza’s Mother

Every dollar counts!
$1 per day might not seem like a significant amount, every dollar truly helps when fighting cancer and providing medical care to children in need. The donations also go toward supporting the families dealing with the obstacles that come with obtaining medical care.
WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?
The cost of treating one child for cancer each year is approximately $2,000. This total consists of several factors, such as medication that typically costs $15 a month. Scans can cost about $200, while radiation treatments can cost three times as much per visit. MAHAK, with its slogan of “Help us and let us help you.” relies on using the latest technology to provide the most effective care in a loving environment. No family is ever charged for medical care and treatment, or for transportation, meals, or housing.

HOW DO I DONATE?
After choosing to give to ISCC-Charity, and in turn the MAHAK organization, you can pledge to give $1 per day or become a monthly sponsor to give each month. Donating to ISCC-Charity is a meaningful way to fulfill personal philanthropy or teach your entire family about giving. The organization also appreciates and encourages donations and sponsorships made in honor or memory of a loved one.

Secure donations can be made online, and the website also features a printable donation form. Donors can also mail monetary gifts to the charity’s Irvine office . All of the necessary information can be found online at www.iscc-charity.org.
